Heads of organizations have been cautioned not to deliberately punish workers for political affiliation.

According to Baba Jamal, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, workers must not delve into politics during official duties.

Mr. Jamal said that this prevents the appropriate coordination between heads and their subordinates and creates tension. He was speaking at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Maritime and Dock-workers Union (MDU) of the Trades union Congress (TUC) at Winneba.

Mr. Jamal said humanity should be put first before politics in all deliberations and that it is about time Ghanaians took into consideration the negative effects of politicizing issues.

He said fighting and discriminating against each other would only leave issues unattended to and called on the workers to be at the forefront of peace before, during and after the elections.

“Ghana is the only country we have and we should always remember that hurting each other would not take us anywhere. Ghana is the only country we have,” he said.

Mr. Jamal noted that government has not performed badly and that there are several crises globally and lauded the leadership of the unions for working in collaboration with government which has yielded relative peace between both parties.

He said in maintaining peace among the unions, the democratic dispensation of the country is strengthened and marinated.
