Mr Francis Quarme Mawutor, the Public Relations Officer of the Abromedia Institute, a training school for media personnel, has underscored the need for journalists to respect the code of ethics of their profession to ensure societal harmony and order.
Speaking at the institute’s graduation ceremony at the weekend, Mr Mawutor said students graduating from the institute needed to work within rules and regulations, especially the Ghana Journalists Association Code of Ethics.
“We must give meaning and respect to our own code of ethics and reflect global best practices,” he said.
Being at the forefronts of social change, advocacy and democracy, it was imperative journalists weighed the consequences of their actions and be professional at all times to sustain the trust and confidence of society, he said.
Miss Veromica Commey, a former Sports Journalist with the Ghana News Agency, charged the graduands to make discipline, commitment and sacrifice their hallmark, saying; "it will pay enormously."
Mrs Getrude Ohene Addo, host of Today’s Woman on Radio XYZ, challenged the young journalists to be guided by the tenets of effective communication adding; “you must research well before you disseminate information”.
