Who Wants To Sabotage NDC . . . Is It Nigeria Gov't Or Nigeria Gas Company? - Mahama Asks

President John Dramani Mahama has blamed the erratic power supply on sabotage from neighbouring country - Nigeria - but assured consumers that the situation will "normalise" soon.

Speaking at a prayer ceremony at the Black Stars Square during the Eid ul-Fitr celebration in Accra Wednesday, July 6; President Mahama told the gathering that "we have recently suffered some generational problems. Because of sabotage in Nigeria on the terminals, crude oil we ordered from Nigeria has not arrived and so it has created some generational problems for us."

In a response to the President's remarks, Henry Kokofu, NPP Member of Parliament for Bantama, challenged the President to disclose the saboteurs he referred to.

According to him, it is not within the jurisdiction of the President to declare load shedding and so wondered why His Excellency would ascribe the power crises to sabotage.

"Is it the Nigerian government or the Nigerian Gas Company that’s sabotaging...Who doesn’t like President Mahama and the NDC together with Ghanaians, and wants to sabotage the supply of crude?” he queried.

Hon. Kokofu noted that it is the responsibility of the Electricity Company of Ghana to make declarations about the erratic power supply, further claiming that the Mahama administration cannot resolve the country's energy situation.

“Since when has the President declared load shedding, for him to declare load shedding today? The President has never declared load shedding. So we don’t expect him to declare load shedding. What we know is that the Electricity Company of Ghana - the company that operationalizes power supply and distribution in this country – they are the ones who willingly inform us that we are in crises.”
