Prez Mahama Should Equally Counsel EC Chair!

Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen says it would have been reasonable for President John Dramani Mahama to equally advise the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei to go about her duties which will not make people disturb her peace to operate.

According to him, President Mahama’s clarion call on Ghanaians to give the Electoral Commission (EC) peace of mind to work is selfish as he is the beneficiary of the bias operation of the EC.

President Mahama, on Wednesday, urged Ghanaians to ‘give the EC the peace of mind to do its work’.

According to him “this year is an election year and as usual in advance of election years some fear and panic begins to enter our people that there will be trouble. I don’t believe there will be trouble; I don’t believe there will be any trouble this year . . . Let us give the EC the peace of mind to do its work, they have done it before and indeed our electoral commission is one of the best commissions in the whole world and we have confidence in them to be able to conduct an election and so let’s leave them peacefully to conduct the election.

Speaking at a prayer ceremony at the Black Stars Square on the occasion of the Eid ul-Fitr celebration in Accra Wednesday July 6, said “for a country that has successfully conducted six elections “I believe we are going to vote in peace and whoever emerges as president will do so through a transparent and fair process."

Reacting to this on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the Deputy Chief Scribe of the NPP chided that “if the EC will do what is right, nobody will be insisting on it to engage in activities which will be fair to all stakeholders.”

He stressed that “President Mahama could not have advised EC boss to do what will not attract public interference because he is the recipient of her unfair operations”, thus, he is the beneficiary of her activities and so he could not equally counsel her to do what is right.
