Military Officer Bullies Developer Over Land

A land developer, Richard Oppong, has accused Major Bamford of the Military’s Southern Command at Teshie, an Accra suburb, of using his uniform to bully and encroach on his land without any supporting document.

Speaking to Oman FM in an interview, Mr. Oppong indicated that Major Bamford has been harassing him since March last year claiming that a certain Nii Mensah sold the land to him, which the land developer says it's not true.

He said, as of now, there are land guards, allegedly sponsored by the Military bigwig on the encroached land and development is still on-going whilst the matter pends in court.

Mr. Oppong stated that since he took the matter to court Major Bamford has been double-tonguing on the matter at every point because when Nii Mensah, the landguards and Major Bamford came to the site the latter denied being the one behind the ongoing project but “when my lawyers served him with court injunction on the land he admitted to my lawyers that indeed he is the one doing that project.”

He said, in spite of the court injunction Major Bamford has ignored the court order and continued with the work.

The military officer cannot dissociate himself from the project at the time...“He has even come to the site with his wife so I am so surprised that Bamford can disassociate himself from the 4-storey structure. So I plead with Gen. Adusei to get involved and see where the truth lies. I also plead with all the judges and lawyers in the land to get involved as well”, he added.

Mr. Oppong noted that at one point, a certain Major Nsiah tried to resolve it but when “I narrated my story to Major Nsiah and he asked me where my documents where. I told him that before I give him my documents, Bamford should present his documents that gave him the right to break my fence wall as well. So I was expecting Bamford to prove that he had the documents but he failed to bring his and so I told Major Nsiah to compel Bamford to bring his documents. Major Nsiah then asked me if I had the documents of the land when it was then four plots before I had sold one. I had a copy of the side plan of the four plots and also that of the three plots I processed after the sale of one plot. So he took a copy of the indenture and read it. When he read the denture, he asked me who Eugene Odamertey Sowah was. I replied that he was the one who signed my documents. It was at this moment that Nii mensah counted saying the document I had was fake, and Eugene is an illiterate and so he, Nii Mensah, is the one who has the power of attorney to sign documents.”

Mr. Oppong is therefore pleading with Commander Adusei of the Teshie Command to intervene and call the Soldier to order as efforts to reach the military officer by OmanFM have proved futile.
