Parliament is scheduled to host today a public forum to solicit the views of the Ghanaian populace on the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill, 2016 seeking to change the day of voting in an election year from December 7 to the first Monday of November in subsequent polls.

The forum would be held by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

The Bill amends Article 112(4) of the Constitution to make provisions for an effective and smooth transition of power from governing party to another.

Currently, the dates set for the conduct of both Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the country is December 7th while swearing-in takes place on the 7th day of January in the ensuing year.

Thus, to ensure that both Presidential and Parliamentary elections are held earlier than the 7th day of December, the Bill seeks to amend article 112(4) of the Constitution that will effect the changes in electoral laws.

In furtherance of this endeavor, the legislature seeks to engage the public to solicit their views on the bill which is currently before the House.

In an interview with Kasapa 102.5 FM, the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Parliament of Ghana, Kate Addo the forum which is open to all members of the public will be held at Committee Rooms 1&2 of the new Parliamentary Office Complex.

She claimed members of the public who could not make it to parliament today can also afford to reach officials of the legislature with their views and suggestions via mails and other electronic media as well.
