Women Groups Petition Parliament To Sanction Kennedy Agyapong

The Coalition of Women Groups in Accra have petitioned Parliament to sanction MP for Assin Central for attacking the dignity of women.

The group which embarked on a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday, demanded an unqualified apology immediately from the foul mouth MP, Kennedy Agyapong for his chauvinist attack of Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. They also asked Parliament to haul him before the Privileges Committee

They said an attack on any woman is an attack on all and Kennedy Agyapong’s unfortunate statement is an affront to all. Others demanded an immediate apology and warned that his pride will bring his downfall. Some also expressed regret at the failure of the NPP particularly its flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo to condemn Kennedy Agyapong for the disgraceful conduct.

The over 800 aggrieved women clad in red, began their protest march from the Independence Square to the Osu end of the Accra Sports Stadium. Some of the placards they carries read, ‘Shame on Sexism, Kennedy be a gentleman and apologize, You are grown - Act like it, Parliament sanction Kennedy Agyapong now he is getting out of hand and Women can Make it on their Own”

The petition was received on behalf of the Speaker by the Women Caucus in Parliament. Leader of the Women Caucus in Parliament, Mary Salifu Boforo (Hajia) who is also the MP for Savelugu, assured them of prompt action.

She was accompanied by the MP for Sissala East, Alijata Sulemana Gbentie, Comfort Doyoe Ghansah, MP for Ada, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw, MP for Tano South and the acting Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo.
