NPP Is More Than Ready For 2016 Elections - John Boadu

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) acting General Secretary, John Boadu says his party has no problem with the date set for the 2016 elections except that they are concerned with the readiness of the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct this year’s elections.

According to him “if it means that the 2016 elections will be organised tomorrow, the NPP is ready because the ordeal Ghanaians are going through under President Mahama and the NDC government they cannot wait to oust this government from power.”

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, John Boadu recalled that it was due to the desire to better the activities of the Electoral Commission which is why as far back as 2015 through the election petition, the IPAC meeting saw the set up of election reforms committee to change the electoral calendar.

“The committee accepted that if there happens to be run-off, it will affect the work of the transitional team and so there was the need to change the Election day to November in order to pave way for other activities before December begins. This is what all the political parties have accepted and we still stand by the change of date,” he indicated.

“We took this decision in 2015 and we have been trumpeting that the elections will be conducted in November while the necessary things were not submitted to the Parliament on time to end all these doubts in the minds of Ghanaians,” he bemoaned.

“At the forum, majority of the stakeholders said the decision to move the Election day to November is accepted by all, but their concerns are the readiness of the EC to the elections because there are so many issues captured in the EC calendar like IPAC meetings but have not been fulfilled,” he stressed.

He however reminded the NDC Chief Scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that it is not for only EC to prepare for elections in the country as in the past EC had said it was ready for district assembly elections but in the end things went wrong and the elections were postponed.

“So if Asiedu Nketia has a dull brain to analyse issues, it should stay that way and he should not try to impose his dull brain on us because we have the right to resolve issues which we know will affect all of us.

“ . . NPP is ready today or tomorrow if the elections are held; whether November or December, we are ready but the issue is that what we want is the right thing to be done in the electoral process so that people will not have doubts about the results. It was the reason for the public forum in the first place to solicit for views,” he said.
