The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has expressed satisfaction about the resignation of the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu, but demanded a formal apology from him.

The Ankobiahene of the Asantehene, Baffuor Kwame Kusi in an interview yesterday said Kojo Bonsu’s resignation did not fully settle the impasse between him and the chiefs.

Kojo Bonsu resigned on Tuesday after several calls by the traditional authorities for his removal.

Mr. Bonsu was said to have written a letter to the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development questioning the locus of the Chief of Amoaman, Nana Agyenim Boateng on a committee set up to supervise the re-construction of the Kejetia Market Project.

This action compounded with other acts of disrespect allegedly shown by the former Chief Executive triggered the chiefs’ call for his removal.

A ram was slaughtered at a meeting at the Menhyia Palace by the chiefs as a form of ritual to sever ties with Mr. Bonsu if he remained in office.

President John Dramani Mahama was given a one-week ultimatum to sack him but Mr. Bonsu rendered a public apology and resigned before the President could take any action.

Baffuor Kusi stated that the chiefs are yet to receive an apology letter from Mr. Bonsu and added that there was still a need for him to visit the chiefs and ask for forgiveness in a ‘traditional way.’

Baffuor Kusi urged Mr. Bonsu to visit the chiefs and apologise to them ‘for his own good as a native of the Ashanti Kingdom because he cannot win a fight against the chiefs’.
