The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from insults and unsavoury comments.
He further admonished the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, to run an issue-based campaign as his main contender, President John Dramani Mahama, has promised.
The Asantehene made these comments on Thursday July 14 when the flagbearer of the NPP accompanied by former President Kufour and other party dignitaries paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
“We do not need insults. This will not help Ghana. When President Mahama came, he promised running an issue-based campaign devoid of insults. He also assured Ghanaians of a peaceful election. You have also assured me same. I have not met the smaller parties yet but I know they will also promise the same thing. My advice to everyone is to be mindful of their utterances and their conduct,” the Asantehene stressed.
He continued: “Let us stop the insults and the use of intemperate language on the airwaves. Let us only promote what unites us, rather than what divides us. I pour my blessings on you. It is not about violence or insults.”
The overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom indicated that the twice-failed presidential aspirant has his blessing as he attempts for the third time to win the mandate of Ghanaians to be president at this year’s polls.
“I pour my blessings on you. Go forth, and when you become successful, implement these policies you have outlined for the wellbeing of Ghanaians. All we are looking for in Ghana is progress and development,” he stated.
