Your Health, Your Wealth- GMA Ex President

The immediate past President of the Ghana Medical Association, GMA, Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei has encouraged parents to invest in the health of their children, insisting a country’s wealth , is a variable, dependent on the health status of its citizens.

Dr. Adusei, who had joined the Breast Cancer International, BCI-DHL, sponsored free screening exercise for Senior High Schools countrywide, noted, without a healthy productive workforce, economic growth, will grind to a halt.

He noted women dominate the informal sector of the economy, and advised parents to be particularly watchful of the health status of their daughters, who are more pre-disposed to breast cancer, which invariably affects their contribution to economic development.

The screening at the Osei Kyeretwie SHS(OKESS), in Kumasi, drew over 2,800 students, who were counselled by BCI President, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, to periodically carry out self breast examination and promptly report any unusual observation for treatment.

She assured the students breast cancer, contrary to widely held misconceptions, is treatable and curable, but on condition early signs are reported for prompt attention.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, observed the collaboration with DHL had widened and expanded the coverage of free breast screening, and encouraged other corporates and public spirited individuals to contribute and help bring health and prosperity to women in particular, and Ghana in general.

Survivors of breast cancer present at the program related their personal experiences, assuring the students that they had no reason to be worried in the unlikely event of affliction, saying life doesn’t take a turn for the worst if detected on time and cured.
