Individuality Promotes Selfish Centred Behaviour

Mr Ebenezer Ofori Agbettor, the Executive Director of the Institute of Human Resource and Management Practitioners (IHRMP) Ghana, has said the promotion of individuality among the citizenry, especially the youth, builds up selfish centred behaviour.

He said concentrating solely on oneself; thinking of shining for merited glory for oneself both at school and in the work place does not help in the empowerment of youth as well as productivity in the country at large.

“If the systems promote individuality and build up selfish centred behaviour, that will not help us as a country and the empowerment of our youth,” Mr Agbettor said at the National Unions of Ghana Students (NUGS) Pre-Education Conference Dialogue held in Accra.

He said it is expectant of graduates to flow with ease on the job market as that would show how competent they are technically instead of posing to be what they are not.

Mr Agbettor therefore advised students to build and have better managerial competency especially when it is a major challenge to Ghanaians.

“Your behaviour, values, interpersonal relationship and integrity should sell you to your employees as those are what are expected of you from your employees to close the gap.

“This tells them how reliable and competent you are,” he said.

The Executive Director of the IHRMP Ghana, urged students to take their attachments and internships seriously as industrial exposure begins from there.

“Also learn to work as a team and support one another because when you find the right team you become a power house,” he said.

Mr Agbettor lauded the organisers for a laudable initiative that help for ideas to be shared and exchanged openly.

Paa Quecy Adu, the NUGS President, said the Pre-Education Conference Dialogue which was on the theme: “Graduate Destination Market and Building Sustainable Funding Models for Higher Education in Ghana,” was a build up ahead of a main conference slated for July 28 and 29.

Mr Adu said the main conference which would be on the theme: “Funding Tertiary Education, Creating Graduate Destination Market and Public –Private Sector Partnership,” aims at discussing the responsibility of private sector supporting education.

“We are also aiming at launching a scholarship fund that would help brilliant but needy students, dialogue with stakeholders on best to promote education systems especially higher education in the country and getting stakeholders to make the learning of entrepreneurial skills a compulsory subjects ,” he said.

Mr Adu called on all to be very technical and creative in their work to boost educational standards in the country.
