Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has called on Ghanaians to pursue activities that would promote national unity.
He said as the country prepares to enter into another era of democratic dispensation, there is the need for the citizenry to unite and eschew all forms of negative tendencies that may derail the peace the country is enjoying.
Mr Amissah-Arthur made the call at the end of this year’s Republic Day walk, which ended at the El-wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
It was on the theme: ‘’Ensuring Peaceful Election through Keep Fit Activities: My Role, Your Role, Our Role.’’
About 80 keep fit clubs drawn from Ghana, Togo and Benin took part in the 15-Kilometre walk which started from the El-Walk Stadium, through the 37 Military Hospital to Nima through some principal streets of the capital, ending at the starting point.
The walk, which was organised by the El-Wak Keep Fit club and sponsored by Queiroz Galvao, Max International and Blue Skies Energy Drink, is an annually arranged to enhance the health status and well-being of participants.
The Vice President commended the keep fit clubs for their participation and urged them to keep it up.
This Mr Ammisah-Arthur said would help reduce stress, diseases and would increase productivity.
Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways, urged Ghanaians to demonstrate a high level of tolerance to ensure that there is always peace in the country.
He appealed to them to verify their names when the exhibition of the voters register is opened and to accept the results of the November 7 elections in good faith.
Nii Lante Vanderpuije, Minister for Youth and Sports called on Ghanaians to take active interest in physical education so that they would remain healthy at all times.
He urged the youth to desist from all forms of acts that may derail the peace during the elections.
