A Former Sports Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Mallam Ali Yusif Issah has called on the husband of the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charllote Osei to take immediate legal action against the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong.

“I don’t know why Madam Charllote Osei has refused to act on Ken Agyapong’s comments but if she is not ready to take any action, her husband should do that and sue him for those derogatory remarks towards the EC boss,” he said on Accra FM.

The NPP MP launched a scathing attack on Charlotte Osei, alleging that she was appointed after sexual favours.

The comments by the Assin Central MP have been roundly condemned.

Though many civil society groups and women advocates have spoken against the misogynistic claim, NPP’s Women’s Organiser, Otiko Afisa Djaba, recently told journalists that, there was the need for the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and parliament to go into the allegation.

She argued that Mrs. Osei could be compromised by the president as far as the forthcoming general election is concerned and if indeed, there had been any sexual relationship between her and Mr Mahama in the past as alleged.

Meanwhile, the former sports minister who defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) upon his release from jail believes the comments by the Assin Central MP must not be taken for granted.

Mallam Issah was handed a four-year jail term in 2001 for causing financial loss to the State regarding the missing $46,000 bonuses for the Black Stars.

He however was granted presidential pardon in 2003 on grounds of ill-health.
