Residents of Nmagubele, a farming community in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region were on early hours of Monday morning July 18, 2016 greeted with shocking news of the arrest of an Assemblyman, Today has gathered.
Today learnt that, the Nmagubele Electoral Area assemblyman, Hon. Abdul Mumim Gbei aka Adams was arrested for allegedly stealing drugs from a pharmacy store at Gwollu District Hospital.
The Gwollu District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Gai Raymond confirmed the arrest to Today yesterday via telephone.
Hon. Gbei who is currently in the police custody, assisting them in their investigations, Today further learnt is a staff of the hospital, put in- charge of the Pharmacy and Drugs Disbursement Unit .
According to ASP Raymond, a complaint was lodged with the Gwollu District Police Command against the assemblyman by the authorities of the hospital led by the Medical Director, Dr. Aubery Tiwii and Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mrs. Cecilia Kariba on Monday July 18, 2016.
In an interview with Today yesterday via telephone, Mr. Tiwii expressed disquiet about the behaviour of Mr. Gbei.
However he assured his outfit’s commitment to deal with him if he is found guilty.
He recalled that the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama during her recent visit to the area donated some drugs to the hospital to aid the work of the management of the hospital.
According to the authorities, Hon.Gbei was once caught with similar offense.
They said he was subsequently given a stern warning by the Gwollu District Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS) where he was asked to sign a bond of good behaviour.
