Walewale Violence: My Hands Are Clean Northern Regional Minister Replies NPP

The Northern Regional Minister, Abdullah Abubakari, has denied instigating the violence that erupted in Walewale over the weekend between supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, as a law abiding and peaceful citizen he’ll be the last person to instigate violence of any kind when he’s contributed to building the country in many ways.

The New Patriotic Party in the Walewale constituency has accused Hon. Abdullah  Abubakari who’s also the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, Abdullah Abubakari, of masterminding the chaos.

In a statement, the party claims the regional minister has formed a belligerent vigilante group known as ‘Abuba Aluta Boys’ which he uses to terrorise members of the opposition parties in the constituency.

“The elephant fraternity in the Walewale constituency are highly honoured to have you in our midst to share with you issues pertaining to the violent nature of a pro-NDC group known as Abuba Aluta Boys. This group is being sponsored by the Northern Regional minister.

“The party has picked up signals of plans by this Abuba Aluta Boys to set ablaze party properties; especially houses of some selected individuals in the constituency”, the statement alleges.

A near bloodbath occurred on Saturday in the Walewale township when some supporters of the NDC and the NPP fiercely run into each other with sharp objects and stones following a misunderstanding over the use of a particular road by one of the parties.

Both parties had organized a function simultaneously in the township; while the NPP pro-youth group ‘Bawumia Youth for Change’ was having a campaign launch, the NDC was also outdooring its youth group called ‘Zaadeeya youth group’.

However speaking on Okay FM, Hon. Abdullah Abubakari stated that his political detractors are accusing him falsely in a bid to scuttle his political fortunes ahead of the November 7 election.

“I was absent from the town when the incident happened. Just because I’m the Parliamentary Candidate for Walewale and the NPP knows it is losing the seat and because they are struggling to save the face of Dr Mawumia in the constituency, everything that the happens, the NPP rushes to the media to claim that it is the Regional Minister who caused it. The NPP instigated their boys and that caused the confusion. They should stop mentioning my name in connection with that violence because I had no hand in that.”
