GBC Workers Threaten Nationwide Strike

The unionised workers of state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have threatened a mass action soon following the National Media Commission’s (NMC) failure to heed to calls for dissolution of the current Board of the corporation.

The workers have been on war path with the board accusing it of of running down the corporation and misappropriating the state corporation’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) by “illegally” employing directors without recourse to due process.

At a charged durbar held today, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the GBC’s premises, in Accra the workers restated their position for the NMC to dissolve the Board, else they will go on a nationwide strike.

Samuel Aryeetey, a union leader who addressed the durbar said there is no turning back on their decision vis-à-vis the problems festering in the corporation.

Angry workers following the impasse denied board members entry into the corporation’s premises last week in line with their resolution to deal with the matter.

According to them, the stand off will continue and hence they’ll not be intimidated by the action of the Board.
