The Ghana Education Service (GES) says they are unaware of actor John Dumelo’s political activities in some Senior High Schools across the country.
The GES denied strongly receiving any permit from the award winning actor to embark on a ‘Peace Tour’ in some selected schools.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Rev Jonathan Bettey, the Education Service wasn’t officially informed about Dumelo’s ongoing tour – he said authorities of already visited schools will be queried.
“We are now hearing this Dumelo’s tour for the first time on your station [NEAT FM]. We have no idea about that,” he said.
His comment comes after NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku called on the Education Service to with immediate effect halt the political activities of John Dumelo.
John Dumelo has been engaging in a ‘Peace Tour’ in some Senior High Schools – but Sammy Awuku claimed the actor is surreptitiously campaigning for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and using the recently launched 'Green Book' by the NDC as testament to campaign for President John Mahama.
Mr Dumelo has strongly denied campaigning for the NDC in schools he has visited – he also denied allegations that President John Dramani Mahama is funding his tour, and insisted the GES is aware of his tour – “I am using my own money. No one is supporting me.”
But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', Rev Jonathan Bettey described Dumelo’s move as “unfortunate” – “Ghana Education Service is not a political party. We don’t belong to any party. We are autonomous, every person know where he/she belongs but we don’t play any politics in our administration.”
“We have to know why the gentleman is doing that. Our students are not allowed to be used for any political activities and our school premises can’t be used as well. We don’t belong to a party. We will address this issue with immediate effect,” he strongly kicked against Dumelo’s campaign tour.
