GIA Public Awareness Lecture On Insurance

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, has appealed to insurance companies to make their policies flexible, affordable and appealing. He said this in an address read for him at a public lecture on "Insurance, an industry of opportunity for national development" organised by the Ghana Insurance Association (GIA) as part of the association's Insurance Awareness Month celebration at Takoradi on Wednesday. Mr Aidoo said the celebration should be used to create awareness and to encourage individuals, families and business owners to insure their lives and businesses. Mr Seth Appertey, General Manager of CDH Insurance Company Limited, said the insurance industry was growing at a fast rate in the country and that there are 21 general insurance companies and 17 life assurance companies. He said the insurance industry contributes about 1.6 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Mr Appertey said health insurance has been one area in which government has employed the services of insurance to offer social service to the people and the country's health insurance system has been a major tool that has been considered as the key to ensuring effective, efficient, affordable and quality health care system.
