I Will Retire Victor Smith From Politics After 2016 Elections - NPP MP

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North constituency, Hon Gifty Twum Ampofo who succeeded the late JB Danqua-Adu on his demise as MP has sworn to retire Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Emmanuel Victor Smith for showing interest again in the Abuakwa North Seat.

Ambassador Victor Smith picked the form through a delegation of five, represented by Friends of Victor Smith and some grassroot supporters of the party in the constituency, led by Muntalla Idris and Yusif Omar.

They picked the form last Wednesday at the Eastern regional office of the party.

The party opened nomination on Wednesday following the resignation of the parliamentary candidate, Anthony Gyimah, who cited personal reasons for his resignation.

Mr. Smith bowed out of contesting the election in the Abuakwa North after he was defeated by the late opposition New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP), Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu in the 2012 parliamentary election despite calls by the party supporters not to bow out.

However, following the death of the MP, calls from Friends of Victor Smith and NDC supporters in the constituency for the return of Mr. Smith intensified.

Mr. Smith’s acceptance to contest the seat has led to another anticipated keen contest in the Abuakwa North constituency.

The NDC hopes to capture the seat from NPP who has occupied the seat since its creation in 2000 from Abuakwa Central.

But the incumbent NPP MP, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show says the return of Victor Smith to contest the Abuakwa North seat is the least of her worries as the seat is already taken by the NPP.

Her reason is based on the fact that His Excellency Victor Smith has not done anything for the people of Abuakwa North when he was serving as Regional Minister for Eastern Region.

She however stressed that it is time for Mr Smith to retire from active politics and therefore his return to contest the Abuakwa North Seat again gives her the opportunity to retire him.

“ . . his return to contest for the seat is not a bother to me and the NPP supporters in Abuakwa North, because we know he did nothing for us. In fact, his return is a perfect time for me to retire him, I will retire Victor Smith from politics,” she insisted.
