Afoko Goes To Court Under Heavy Security

Followers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have raised concern over the large number of police personnel that normally accompany the suspended National Chairman of the party, Mr. Paul Afoko, to court.

Mr. Afoko, in December last year, sued the NPP and its Acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay, over the decision to suspend him from office.

Mr. Afoko, in his statement of claim, insisted that he is the duly elected Chairman of the NPP. The case has been dragging on in court and is due for judgment on August 15, this year.

Monday July 25 was the date set by the court for all the parties to file their addresses. The parties were also asked to report to court yesterday for it to fix a date for the judgment.

But when the suspended National Chairman arrived in court yesterday, he was under heavy police escort, to the chagrin of the NPP followers.

Mr. Paul Afoko was suspended indefinitely by the party in October, after the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee recommended his suspension, following a petition filed by two members of the party.

The recommendation was unanimously endorsed by the NPP National Executive Committee on October 23, and Freddy Blay was made to act in his stead, a statement issued by the party said.
