The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has underlined its determination to do everything to aid the people to move away from the politics of acrimony.
Mr. Samuel Akuamoah-Asare, its Deputy Chairman in-charge of Operations, said it would continue to engage with everybody to have better understanding of their civic rights and duties.
He was addressing the closing ceremony of a four-day workshop held in Kumasi for 51 directors of the Commission drawn from selected districts across the country.
It was organized by the NCCE with support from the European Union (EU) and the goal was to build the capacity of the officers to effectively perform.
The event provided the platform to discuss public election regulations, checklist for election observation, the concept of non-violence and the electoral process.
How to help voters to properly thumbprint the ballot to significantly reduce spoilt and rejected ballots in this year’s general election also took a centre stage.
Mr. Akuamoah-Asare urged the officers to make sure that they reached out to all the people to assist them to conduct themselves well to keep the political temperature low.
He repeated the Commission’s plans to organize a presidential debate for flagbearers of the political parties, contesting the coming polls.
That, he said, would provide them the opportunity to articulate their views and plans for dealing with issues of pressing concern to the people.
The debate would be held in Tamale, Kumasi and Accra.
Mr. Alhassan Yakubu, the Ashanti Regional Director, said they had stepped up public education to get the people to work together to protect the nation’s peace.
