Trouble is looming in the Bunkpurugu branch of the National Democratic Congres (NDC) after the parliamentary primaries last week which may see two or more candidates in the camp going independent.
Information gathered indicates that Anthony Gingong, who emerged victorious, had lost two previous primaries but each time he failed to support the elected candidates.
Investigations conducted by DAILY GUIDE revealed that a video circulating has indicated that Anthony Gingong is doing everything possible to ensure that Duut Bonchel Abdullah, who is also from Bunkpurugu, succeeds him after his term of office should he become the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area.
The allegation has angered residents from other parts of the Bunkpurugu area, who felt betrayed by the parliamentary candidate and are threatening to join forces to support the other candidates who hail from their area.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted Nanburi Derrick about his intention to go independent, he said he is a politician and he intends using the position to serve his people.
According to him, the people of the area came to him and convinced him to represent them in parliament.
“If the people ask me to go independent why not, I don’t owe allegiance to anybody apart from my people,’ he indicated.
Unconfirmed sources suggest that Dr. Benson Boinkum Konlan, the first runner up in the just-ended primaries might also go independent.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the parliamentary candidate of the NDC Anthony Gingong denied all the allegations and said more of such false allegations will come but the decision to elect the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu will be decided by the people of the area.
“Such allegations are yet to come and so people should ignore them when they heard about it just like the Nakpanduri one which came’.
He assured that all the five candidates have come together and are doing everything possible to win both the presidential and parliamentary slots.
“We will deliver the presidential and parliamentary to President Mahama to know that the seat belongs to the NDC and not NPP’.
The Bunkpurugu seat is currently being held by Solomon Namlit Boar of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
NPP won the seat in 2012 and it’s believed that the NDC members would have to unite in order to defeat the NPP candidate.
