The Head teacher of the New Generation Preparatory School at Adukrom in Kumasi, who allegedly killed a mechanic over a ring and absconded, has been arrested by the Police.
The arrest of Tofick Manna comes barley two days after reported on the story in its Tuesday July 26, 2016 edition.
Police Superintendent Rev. Dr. Samuel Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, acting Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, who confirmed the arrest to The Ghanaian Times said he was picked by the police from his hideout on July 28, 2016 and the single barreled gun he used retrieved.
According to the police the suspect had been provisionally charged with murder after he confessed to the crime and would be put before court soon.
It is recalled that the suspect, after taking the body of the deceased to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), absconded leaving his younger brother with the corpse.
The incident which took place on July 21, 2016 at about 7:30pm caused tension at Adukrom as sympathisers of the deceased threatened to burn the house of the suspect.
It took the timely intervention of some opinion leaders in the community to restrain the irate sympathisers, mainly the youth, from vandalising the house of the suspect during the burial of the deceased, last Friday.
An eye witness, Ousman Ibrahim, popularly called Skybee, a barber, told The Ghanaian Times a younger brother of the suspect allegedly took a ring belonging to the deceased.
He claimed that when the deceased realised the ring had been taken by the suspects’ younger brother he chased him to his (suspect) house.
Upon arrival at the house, Ibrahim claimed that the suspect came out of his room and asked the deceased to leave the house but the deceased insisted on collecting his ring.
According to the source, the suspect entered his room, came out with a single barreled gun and fired a warning shot to scare the deceased who would not budge.
The suspect, Ibrahim claimed, got angry and fired a shot killing him instantly; and he and his younger brother took him to the Manhyia hospital but were referred to the KATH.
Ibrahim claimed that on reaching the KATH, the suspect pretended to have received a call on his mobile handset and absconded leaving the younger brother who reported the case to the police.
