 “Humanitarian actions of Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur are the visible effects of her deep commitment to improving the human condition.” especially the generosity of a woman attentive to vulnerabilities and pain of humanity.

Mrs. Matilda  Amissah  Arthur , Wife of the Vice President  of Ghana  have taken it upon herself  to help  raise awareness about the critical maternal issues in the country, in order  to  help raise awareness on  maternal health  for children and their mothers  in the country by wiping away  tears on the faces.

 Her open door policy in running the office of the Second Lady of Ghana has helped to create a good bound between her and the women. Effective and efficient channel of communication between her office and Ghanaian women is another factor that has endeared the Second Lady to women and children in the country.

She is a woman who has got strength, vision and foresight. She is highly innovative and does not slack in pursuing her mission in fulfilling her set goals. She is a very good example of the woman in Proverbs 31:10-30.

As I continue to monitor her activities, Mrs. Amissah-Arthur has continuously called on Ghanaians to work towards creating a culture of caring and commitment to education by reading because a reading nation is an informed nation. And an informed nation is a powerful nation. That is what she believes in.

She believes that Ghanaians cannot afford to be ignorant in a technologically advanced world. She says Ghanaians have to renew their commitment to a building a Better Ghana, where all will have to advance in all spheres of social, economic, political and scientific fields.

 Personally, she has been working hard to contribute to the improvement of the welfare of our mothers and children through her own initiative and is working to increase access to quality maternal and infant health services in Ghana.

As part of her commitment she has toured majority of the health centers in the country and has given hope to the less privileged in society and also to see to the welfare of sick children in the country, so that she can help alleviate them from their suffering.

 Through her interventionist programs in the area of health care delivery, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur has also educated mothers on the need to seek early maternal health care before their time in order to avoid complications which would lead to maternal deaths and other factors associated with it.

 Mrs. Amissah Arthurs primary objective is to help improve the lives and well-being of women, youth and the less privileged members of the society which is key and has championed the crusade against HIV/AIDS and Ebola through awareness and sensitization programs with Maternal and Child Health been her priority.

A strong advocate on issues relating to children, she also has been in the vanguard of fight for the education of children as a right together with health related issues.

As a professional Librarian she has carried out extensive sensitization programs in the society laying emphasis on enrollment, retention and completion of children’s education with the aim of seeing to it that children were treated with care because they are our future leaders.

 Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur has also been in the forefront of sanitation issues in the country and has consistently stated that environmental cleanliness is not government's responsibility alone but the individual as well.

According to her, primary healthcare starts with everyone especially at the time Ebola and cholera is around: she would always be a crusader for environmental cleanliness and has asked Ghanaians to observe strict environmental cleanliness in order to check the spread of the Cholera disease.

  Matilda Amissah Arthur did not wait for her husband to rise to the Second highest office in the country to work in humanitarian action. She is someone who commits her resources for the betterment of underprivileged.

Active woman

Since becoming Second Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur,a professional librarian herself, and former President of the Association, is at the forefront by helping children in the country to advance social values and adopt reading as a habits as youths  of this country.

She was doing that through her NGO by name Reading for Life, an NGO that has passion for children and organizes reading clinics for children across the country because they are the future leaders of our country.

Matilda Amissah Arthur has helped distressed children especially within the country and regionally, through a variety of programs and charitable donations to a lot of institutions and has devoted herself to the charity.

 Education

 Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur,a Professional librarian over the years has made constant effort at seeing that children, not only enroll, but also read and complete school and become future leaders.so  the need to  help the children in the country to advance social values and adopt reading as a habits for youth of the country.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, before becoming the Second Lady of Ghana had an NGO by name Reading for Life, an NGO that has passion for children and organizes reading clinics for children across the country because they are the future leaders of our country.

She has done significant work promoting greater emphasis on women and girls in development. Is the battle for their health and education in the country .

 Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur says her passion for social work and her passion for social work with a  commitment in promoting the rights of children in the country,which she say  was motivated by  her father ,who was once  the Director of Social Welfare in Ghana,hence her actions  as a philanthropist who wants to constantly conduct humanitarian missions in order, to bring aid and comfort to  children.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, says since her upbringing, she has always been motivated to be care giver to children, orphans and the less privileged in society. So, ‘’it has become her passion, to champion and help reduce the increasing deterioration of child welfare wherever she finds herself.

Commitments Fight against child labor

Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur has been campaigning on all fronts against child labor. With this commitment in all the places that she visits with her call on parents to desis sending their children for trading at least part-time before they go to school in the morning.

She has called on MMDCE to monitor and evaluate the actions in that direction to help the Government in the fight against child exploitation, so that they can get time to learn, something that a sign of the progress made in that direction  in the country. 

Women's empowerment-  A firm believer in the economic potential of women, Mrs. Matilda Amissah  Arthur has always called for a Support Fund for women in Ghana to finance their micro through  basket weaving Basket weavers seek external support ,Mrs Amissah-Arthur further urged them to form co-operatives so that they could meet bulk demand for their products.

Axim Municipal Hospital, Princess Marie Louis Hospital, Accra, Swedru Municipal Hospital  in Agona  Swedru  ,Koforidua Regional hospital, Axim District Hospital , Effia Nkwanta  Regional Hospital, Tarkwa Municipal Hospital ,Suhum Municipal Hospital ,Taifa District Hospital ,St. Anthony's Hospital in Dzodze, in the Volta Region, Hohoe municipal Hospital , Sogakokpe  District hospital.  Axim Municipal Hospital three times , Princess Marie Louis Hospital, Accra,Eikwe Catholic Hospital, Newtown Health Centre in the Ellembelle Jomoro Districts of the Western Region.the  Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital in Kpando Municipality of the Volta region.  Enchi Government hospital, Asankragua Catholic Hospital and the Huni Valley health Centre ,Bibiani Government Hospital , Sefwi Wiaso Municipal hospital, Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital in Kpando Municipality ,Kukurentumi Chip compound, Kutu Krom chip compound ,

The Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur has donated assorted items including fruits, drinks, biscuits, toys and writing materials to the Children’s Ward of the Koforidua Regional Hospital.

 HIV and other diseases.

Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, the Second Lady, has broken grounds for the construction of a GH¢1.5 million Hospital in Koforidua on to serve as care centre for the terminally ill and the sick in society till their death known as a Hospice.

  The Second Lady has also donated assorted items to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIVs) at the Matthew 25 House in Koforidua and celebrated Christmas with them and pays them regular visits and is currently helping them to put up a Hospice in koforidua.

 

 Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur has also donated Christmas gifts to members of Mathew Chapter 25, a Catholic benevolent society providing care to people living with HIV at Koforidua. She has done some work with HIV patients in Koforidua by spending time with them and attending their Christmas parties and donating to them most of the time

 Some of other critical medical facilities that she has visited and donated include the following places, Orthopedic Training Centre at Nsawam in the Eastern Region. Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Weija Leprosarium, HIV Centre in Koforida

 Mrs. Amissah-Arthur has also put up a building a three classroom block for the Methodist Rafiki Village at Effutu Gyahadze.

She has also helped  the  - Agona Duakwa Islamic Basic School, Agona Kwanyarko Anglican Basic School ,Inauguration of  an Information and Communication Technology and Teachers Resource Centre for the people of Lower Bobikuma , inauguration of a 30-million dollar computer laboratory for PLAY Soccer Ghana, a FIFA project based in Cape Coast that uses football and ICT to prepare children under nine years for football and leadership purposes, .Assorted library  books and laptop for the  Kogle Primary and Junior High School (JHS)in the Nandom District of the Upper West Region, donation of library books and materials to the Ghana Christian International High, School Pomaa – Adieso Campus Hwiremoase in the Adansi North of the Ashanti region. Donation of library books and laptops to the St Thomas Aquinas Junior High School (JHS) in Kpando,EP Basic Schools in  Dzodze Ablorme ,A.M.E. Zion Basic School at Kedzi in the Keta Municipality and ,Abor R C Basic school. Donation of library books and a set of computers each with a UPS to the Methodist Primary school in Dwinase in the Sefwi Wiaso Municipality, Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality, Dompim Methodist JHS, Tarkwa Methodist JHS, and Bogosu Methodist JHS  and  Brawire-Akyinim MA JHS school in Axim .

She has also visited the Ntronang Presbyterian Basic School also in the Birim North District where she presented ten laptop computers, library books to the school and cartons of bottled water to the teachers.

Lepers

The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has called on Ghanaians in general and families of lepers in particular to accept and integrate cured lepers into their midst because the disease is curable.She has also joined choral concert held at Christ the King Parish Hall in Accra to raise funds for a proposed structure that will provide accommodation for cured and uncured lepers in the Northern region, She graced and contributed and called on the audience to extend their love to the underprivileged. The Lepers Aid Committee is a non-governmental organization established about twenty years ago by the Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell to help lepers.

 The wife of the Vice-President is also a friend of Lepers in the country and has called on Ghanaians to show love to lepers by reaching out to them and also advised that as people we should learn to accept and integrate cured lepers into society, because the disease is curable.

Some few years ago, she joined the Lepers Aid Committee, chaired by Very Rev. Fr Andrew Campbell to mark World Leprosy Day with the inmates at Weija Leprosarium.

The day is observed internationally on the last Sunday of every January, to increase public awareness of the disease.

Some of the orphanages that she has visited  and made donations are the are Kinder Paradise, an orphanage at Prampram, in the Dangme East District, Raffiki, an orphanage centre owned by the Methodist Church at Winneba, Kokrobite Chiltern Centre,  BASICS international in Chorkor. Donation of food and educational materials and other assorted items to the children’s in Osu , together with her Support to the elderly at Help Age Ghana is a non-governmental organization.

She has also donated quantity of gas cylinders, gas cookers, head pans, head trays and nets for fishmongers valued at millions of Cedis to three communities in the Western Region. The beneficiary communities were Princess town, Egyambra and Miemia, all in the Ahanta West District.

 Mrs Amissah has also donated items to a women’s group of the party called “Eyendadoo” made up of fishmongers in the constituency at ceremony in Winneba. The items included 300 basins, bundles of wire nets used for smoking fish, a quantity of party T-shirts and bags of rice for the Moslem women in the group to support them during the Ramadan.

Then the donation quantities of medical equipment’s and educational materials valued at millions of cedis to the Central Regional Police Experimental Basic School and the Regional Police Clinic in the Cape Coast in the Central Region, Provision of an oil palm processing plant at Ankwandi in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region for women.

 She has also donated library materials to support teaching and learning at PotriKrom L/A Primary and Adugyaman Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in the Ahafo Ano South East of the Ashanti Region.

She recently organized a musical youth and drama concert Titled” Breaking the Myth” made up of children from three less privileged organisations  in the Greater Accra region that  held music lovers spellbound with a performance.

The Program was a pledge made by Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, Wife of the Vice President of Ghana to organize such an event for them if they learnt how to play musical instruments very well.

 

The participating organisations were Kinder Paradise Ghana based in Prampram . Basics based in Chokor, and Achievers Ghana based in Nima.The Interdenominational choir-Winneba Youth Choir and Pan African Youth Orchestra (PAYO) thrilled the audience.Kinder Paradise

Mrs. Amissah-Arthur always educates and encourages the PLHIVs not to be self stigmatised but rather come out boldly to engage in vocations to keep them going.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has urged children in various orphanages to learn work hard and give maximum respect to their caregivers.
