Trader Remanded For Defilement

Isaac Okwan, 27 year old trader who is accused of defiling a 13 year old pupil at Medie, near Amansaman on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with defilement but he pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded Okwan into police custody to reappear on August 22.

This was after the court turned down a bail application by Mr Charles Ofori, counsel for the accused.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant was a 53 year old Orderly residing at Media with the victim. Accused person also reside in the same vicinity.

Prosecution said during the month of June this year, at about 1400 hours, the victim was passing in front of the accused person’s Container when he invited her.

On reaching there, prosecution said Okwan offered her a seat and requested to have sexual intercourse with the victim.

Okwan had sex with the victim and warned her not disclose it to anyone, until she fell sick and she was sent to the hospital where she confessed that Okwan had defiled her.

The complainant reported the matter to the Police at Amasaman and a medical form was issued to enable her to send the victim to the hospital.

When the medical reported was submitted, the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Amasaman, where after investigations the accused was charged.
