Kwesi Nyantakyi: Ghana Premier League needs new champion

The country's football association chief is craving for a new champion outside the old winners this season and has backed his club to achieve that feat.

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed his desire to see his club Wa All Stars to emerge as winners of the premier league. The Northern Blues have enjoyed their best-ever run in the top-flight, reclaiming the top spot last weekend with a 2-0 victory over Bechem United, after Wafa brushed aside Hearts of Oak.

Aduana Stars and Berekum Chelsea are the only clubs aside giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts to win the title since 2000.

“We should see a new winner for the league every year," Nyantakyi was quoted as saying byOctsports.

"Football is the only unscripted grammar and if people go into games with known or predictable results or outcomes, it wouldn't be a better game.

“I wish that Wa All Stars could win the league and also next season another unknown side will win the league and it continues like that so that it doesn’t become two or three horse race," he added.

All Stars have amassed 41 points, two above Hearts and will travel to Cape Coast to play rejuvenated Ebusua Dwarfs in the next match day.
