Public Must Patronise Courts Complaints Unit For Redress

Patrons of the courts who are not satisfied with the services rendered have been advised to lodge their complaints at the Public Relations units of the Judicial Service for immediate redress.

Mr Newton Owusu Kwapong, the Public Relations Officer at the Sekondi High Court, told the Ghana News Agency that in order to bring justice to ordinary persons in the society, the Judicial Service had decentralised its communications operations.

He said in December 2014, the Chief Justice, through the Judicial Service, established the Unit at Sekondi so that aggrieved persons could lodge their complaints for redress.

However, Mr Kwarpong said, the complaints exclude court rulings or judgements and rather asked persons who were not satisfied with a particular ruling to go for appeal in a superior court for adjudication.

He said the Unit had oversight responsibility over the Central Region, adding that another office had been opened in Kumasi to oversee the Ashanti Region as well as the three northern regions.

Mr Kwapong indicated that the Unit was established to render the best of service to court users across the country, saying everybody had the right to lodge a complaint there without paying a fee.

He said: “If for instance, a staff of the Service asked you to pay money because your docket is missing, it’s wrong, therefore you can report that staff to the Unit”.

He indicated that various committees had been instituted to investigate complaints and adjudicate issues to the satisfaction of all parties.
