Bilic plays down Ayew injury

The Hammers' boss says the Ghana international's injury on Monday is not bad as feared.

West Ham United coach Slaven Bilic has shed light on Andre Ayew's injury picked up in their season opener with Chelsea on Monday.

The Ghanaian, who completed a three-year move to the Hammers last week, was withdrawn 35 minutes into his debut after hurting his thigh.

West Ham eventually lost 2-1 in the game played at Stamford Bridge, following a late Diego Costa strike.

“Ayew has a thigh injury,” Bilic confirmed.

“He told me it is not a big one, but you never know.

"He will have a scan on Tuesday and we have to wait for the result of the scan to know how long he will be out."

West Ham play Astra Giurgiu of Romania in the Europa League on Thursday, before returning to domestic action against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Ayew netted 12 times in 34 league appearances for Swansea last season.
