The Civil and Local Government Service Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), has called off its three week strike.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between leadership of CLOGSAG and the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu on Thursday.
Members of CLOGSAG laid down their tools three weeks ago to mount pressure on government to pay their 15 per cent interim market premium.
Attempts by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to get the workers back to work proved futile as they insisted their demands should be met.
President John Mahama addressing the 10th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the TUC in Kumasi, said any attempt to yield to CLOGSAG's demands, “will throw the budget completely off track, and make nonsense of the sacrifices we have made together over the last year.”
He however assured that their demands were going to be factored into the 2017 budget, and hence directed the Minister of Employment and Labour to sign an MoU with CLOGSAG to that effect.
