A Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus with registration number AS 4986-09, and driven by Seth Owusu, collided with a Kia Bongo truck with registration number GE 8523-12, driven by Alex Oppong, 44, who died in the process.
The accident occurred at Akim Atwima Mena in the East Akim municipality of the Eastern Region, killing the driver and one other person instantly.
According to ASP Peter Okyere, Divisional Motor Traffic and Transit Department (MTTD) Commander of Kyebi, the third person who was on board the Kia, was injured and is receiving treatment at the Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital.
ASP Okyere indicated that apart from the driver of the Metro Mass, none of the passengers sustained injuries.
Meanwhile,the bodies have been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital for autopsy, as the police are investigating the case.
In a related case, a 52-year-old Kwabena Ofori Cyan, who was driving a Toyota Corolla numbered GS 2280 11, reportedly ignored signals by the police to stop at the accident scene and nearly ran into the police and those assisting to remove the dead bodies.
He attempted to speed off but the national highway patrol team chased and arrested him. He was detained at the Kibi police station for investigation.
