Youth groups of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North Dayi and Hohoe North Constituencies in the Volta Region have organised fun games at Kpando at the weekend.
The groups competed in male and female soccer, draught, playing cards, tug of peace, eating competition, netball and Ludo amidst brass band music and traditional boborbor tunes.
Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs commended the leadership of the youth in the two constituencies for a "worthwhile innovation" in instituting the fun games to bring about socio-economic development and understanding amongst them.
She commended the novelty in organising the games and said it was necessary to be harnessed, nurtured and replicated countrywide and urged the Inter-Party Advisory Committees to tap the ingenuity of the games to foster unity among the electorates.
Ms Dansua, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi reminded the youth of their role in nation building and urged them to set achievable dreams and refrain from being appendages of chaos and violence in their attempt to satisfy the whims and caprices of politicians.
She added that "we are Ghanaians by birth and only separated by political ideologies, adding that it should therefore be the basis for unity, co-existence and camaraderie.
Mr Victor-Hermann Codobrey, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the gamesis an indication of the party's preparation towards the 2012 general elections as they would not leave anything to chance.
He said the interactions would give the MPs, the MCE and District Chief Executives the opportunity to contact, "feel the pulse of the youth" and brief them on government policies while having fun.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpando District Chief Executive also asked the youth to remain resolute while government works towards fulfilling its promises to them.
He urged them to take advantage of the opportunities that would avail to them, adding that they should not desist from "seeking knowledge and all others would be added".
Mr Ganyaglo called for unity among the youth and warned them to be wary of bandwagon effects and rumour mongering.
In the football match, North Dayi pipped Hohoe North in the boys segment while the female team managed a two-all drawn game.
