Geraldine Atta Sappor Wins Miss Tourism 2016

It seems the University of Ghana female students are unmatched when it comes to beauty pageant contests in Ghana.

Most times, they emerge winners and this has had people wondering if ‘beauty pageant’ is taught at the university as an academic discipline.

Thus it came as no surprise when Ms Geraldine Atta Sappor, a Level 200 student of the university was crowned Miss Tourism 2016 last Friday, August 12 at the National Theatre.

The 19-year-old student of Family and Consumer Science beat 12 other contestants to grab the coveted crown and sash.

The first and second runners-up positions went to Ms Maya Opoku and Ms Akorfa Daniella respectively.

For emerging Miss Tourism 2016, Miss Sappor will promote tourism among the youth locally as well as work on sanitation projects during her reign.

Ms Sappor before enrolling at the University of Ghana, Legon was a student of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School in the Central Region, where she held leadership positions such as the Assistant Compound Prefect and Assistant Captain of the school's basketball team.

She had her primary and junior high school education at the Queensland International School.

Geraldine promises to expose the people of Ghana to the rich Ghanaian culture, while selling Ghana to the world and tackling the issue of poor sanitation.
