MTN resolves to lead in emerging markets

MTN on Tuesday said it had resolved to sustain the company's pursuit of becoming one of the eminent telecommunication players in emerging markets. This was contained in a release on the company's achievement of "A top 10 ranking in the World's Best 40 Global Companies Survey," by A.T. Kearney, one of the world's leading and respected management consulting firms. The survey was compiled for BusinessWeek, an influential international business publication. The release said MTN ranked an impressive seventh place-and trailed behind the likes of Nintendo, Google and Apple. It said: "MTN is the only African company in the top 10 bracket of the World's Best 40 Global Companies". The release signed by Mawuena Dumor, Corporate Services Executive, MTN Ghana Operating Unit, said MTN would actively seek value enhancing opportunities in telecommunications in emerging markets and maintain a strong growth profile. It explained that MTN's commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future, contributed to its high placement. The release noted that attaining that position comes with a challenge of sustaining and improving the company's position, recognizing however that, that could not be an easy task. "This is no easy task; certainly not amidst increased competitive intensity in the ICT sector around the world and no less in MTN's markets," it stated. It said the MTN feat was shared by its "valued subscribers" and that the company would not relent in providing its valued customers world-class telecommunications services. The release said MTN, the largest mobile telephone market shareholder in Ghana, won the inaugural African Business of the Year and Brand of the year Awards in July, presented in London by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) African Business Awards. Launched in 1994, MTN is a global telecommunications group, operating in 21 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
