Parents Storm Ministry

Anxious parents of some candidates who were successful in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but who have not been placed under the Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) yesterday converged on the Ministry of Education to enquire about the fate of their children. The parents, most of whom were accompanied by their children, were seen carrying their childrens results slips as evidence of their having met the placement criteria. Apart from the parents of the children who were not placed, some parents also went to the ministry to ask for change of schools for their children, since the schools they (CHILDREN) were given had either not been chosen at all or were far away from their homes. In separate interviews with the Daily graphic, some of the parents said they were not sure of the fate of their children, especially when first year students had been given between October 12 and 15, 2009 to report to school. Three of the parents Kwaku Obeng, Auntie Comfort and Aboagyewaa told the Daily Graphic that they had gone to the ministry because they had not heard anything from the education authorities concerning those who had not been placed. The three, who were accompanied by their children, said they wanted to know the fate of their children, since other children were leaving for school. Mr Obeng said he did not understand why his son, who had aggregate 13 and chose Koforidua Senior High Technical School, had not been placed at all. I just dont understand why my son was not place at all, he said, adding, That is why I came here to find out the problem, since I dont know what is happening.
