The fifth and sixth Security Watch Africa Lecture and Awards will be held in Ghana between 28th and 30th of this month under the theme �Peace and Security-Panacea to Sustainable Development in West Africa, �according to the chief executive officer (C.E.O) of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbambu. At a press briefing in Accra to announce the date for the programmed, Mr. Agbambu explained that he annual lecture series is an occasion �where knowledgeable speakers bring to the fore burning security issues that threaten our existence and economic sustenance.� The event, he maintained, is geared towards development of security consciousness in Africa and appreciates the efforts of the security agents and agencies as well as �see a safe and secured Africa.� According to him, the mission of the organization �is to use the factor of appreciating little efforts or intent to engender and encourage commitment, resiliency and patriotism, thereby bringing about efficiency in service.� The C.E.O noted that no nation could progress meaningfully without security. He, however, admitted that there cannot be a state of total security but there was the need for them to strive to put some machinery in motion to achieve a state of relative peace and security in their countries and homes. Past editions of the events were held in Nigeria, with participants drawn from various countries in Africa. He added that Ghana was the first country to host the event after the rotational system was approved by the board of trustees. Simon Udie, associate editor of Africa Foremost Security & Safety New Magazine, in an answer to a question on the activities of the organization, said the organization has always been proactive in advising countries on measures to put in place to avoid any setback whenever a national event such as presidential elections are about take place. Mr. Udie added that they also organize talk shows on television to create awareness on the dangers of instability in various countries. Ishmael Akpablie, a representative of the Manet Group, partners of the organization, acknowledged the work of the group and advised all to get involved in discussing such issues since security matters do not concern a single person.
