Government Will Extend Development Projects Nationwide

Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has appealed to aggrieved Ghanaians who have served notice of their intention to boycott the forthcoming elections on account of the lack of development projects to reconsider their decision as the government is striving to extend more projects to every part of the country.

He contended that the fact that there were agitations for more development projects in some communities was an indication that the government was delivering development, and called for restraint in communities whose residents were agitating over delays in extending development infrastructure.

Development

“Development is a gradual process and let me assure Ghanaians that every part of the country would receive its fair share of the national cake,” Mr Amissah-Arthur said when he addressed the Gonja Traditional Council at Damongo in the West Gonja District in the Northern Region on Tuesday.

He told the traditional council that the President had set his priorities right in ensuring that every part of the country had  meaningful development and made reference to the Fufulso-Sawla road whose rehabilitation for many years had been on the drawing board but was tarred during President Mahama’s administration.

The vice-president reiterated his call to the various political actors to conduct a clean campaign devoid of invectives.

He underscored the need for politicians to run a campaign that would promote the peace of the country, coupled with a peaceful election to further consolidate the democratic gains.

Chieftaincy disputes

The vice-president decried reports of chieftaincy disputes in some parts of the country which he said impeded development in the affected communities.

He said succession to stools and skins had become a source of conflict in some parts of the country and commended the people of Gonja for employing the best and most peaceful practices when it came to succession to stools and skins.

He particularly expressed concern about litigation in chieftaincy titles that bred conflict and asked such communities to learn ‘from the great tradition of the Gonjas’.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, told the chiefs that plans were underway for the construction of an emergency hospital along the Buipe-Tamale and Fufulso-Sawla highways as well as construction of the Damongo water project.

The Buipewura who is also the Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council, Abdulai Jinapor II, and the Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Banbange Ndefoso IV, in separate addresses commended the government for the numerous projects it had brought to the area.
