Critics Of Celebrity Endorsement Are Coup Makers - Cwesi Oteng

Contemporary Ghanaian gospel musician, Cwesi Oteng has lambasted critics of musicians who openly endorse or compose campaign songs for political parties or individuals in Ghana.

According to him, people who complain about such things are potential ‘coup makers’.

He threw the bombshell when speaking to Adom News about the implication of the recent craze of celebrities openly endorsing political parties in especially the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP).

“People are born with free will and may belong to or be affiliated to a political party in one way or the other, so endorsing them is nothing strange” he said.

The “God Dey Bless me” hit maker further stated that Even God the creator has given to people their free will because he respects divergent views, so he does not make out why some people always want to prevent others from stating their candid views about politics.

“Such people are oppressors. They are people who cannot accommodate divergent views and have the propensity to oust governments and also trigger civil wars at the slightest provocation” he noted.

Cwesi Oteng noted that, people sometimes hide behind some of these endorsements by celebrities and capitalize on them to attack them.

The award winning musician continued that “whoever claims he or she hates Sarkodie because he has openly supported a particular party undoubtedly has the hated in him or her already before such a thing happen”.

However, Cwesi Oteng said he will not endorse any political party nor individual, neither will he sing a song for any party.

Meanwhile, the Acting Vice President for Ghana Music Council, George William Dickson said the craze of endorsements by celebrities is destroying the creative arts industry.

He stated that, the development has divided the front of the creative arts industry players, a situation he described as worrying.

George William Dickson who is also the independent parliamentary candidate for Agona West in the Central Region, blamed the NDC and NPP for enticing celebrities with money for endorsements.

He therefore advised Ghanaian celebrities not to allow politicians to use money to destroy their careers.
