Yeresesamu Will Fetch NPP Votes Lucky Mensah

Ghanaian highlife musician Lucky Mensah has expressed confidence that his loyal fans will vote for whatever political party he chooses to campaign for ahead of the 2016 general elections in December.

Lucky Mensah has made headlines lately for switching allegiance to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), after having endorsed the governing National Democratic Congress in the 2008 and 2012 polls.

Lucky has composed a campaign song titled Yeresesamu for the NPP, urging Ghanaians to vote for the party’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in a phone interview with DJ Premier, host of Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM, Lucky said his wife, in-laws, and relatives were avid NPP supporters in the past but voted for the NDC in previous elections because he had composed a song for the party. He added that most of his fans also voted for the NDC at the time, something he said indicated his music had influence on others.

Touching on why he shifted camp from the NDC to the NPP, Lucky said: “The hardship in this country has made me change my mind. Now, I want to prove to my fans that the party I joined couldn’t help Ghanaians, so let’s all go back and join the NPP because we all know how they governed this country previously. I believe my fans will listen to my song in good faith and have a change of mind to vote for the NPP.”

Lucky is not the only musician to endorse Nana Akufo-Addo. Hiplife musicians Wisa and A-Plus, and gospel artiste Cwesi Oteng have all endorsed Nana Akufo-Addo’s candidature ahead of the December polls.
