Veep: Ayariga Committed No Crime In Buying Tractors

The man who occupies the second most prestigious office in the country, Vice-President John Dramani Mahama has indirectly defended and justified the acquisition of Tractors by the Presidential spokesperson, Mr. Mahama Ayariga. He said the facility is the brain child of government under its Agricultural Mechanization Concept, aimed at creating the opportunity for any Ghanaian interested in farming, to purchase tractors for commercial farming. The Veep said "it is this facility that Mr. Ayariga took advantage of," albeit amidst hot criticism. Mr. Mahama said government would put in place policies for Agriculture to be attractive to the youth rather than the present situation where the elderly appear more to be in Agric than the youth. Vice-President stated these when he paid a days working visit to the Aveyime Rice Project Site in the Volta Region today. The vice-President also visited a 200 Rice Project Site of Dalive in the South Tongu area. At Areyime Rice Project Site the Project Manager, Mr. Everette Anderson said the Project is on course with 625tons of rice harvested so far with 800 acre-land cleared for new planting.
