Ben Koufie To Be Buried Saturday

Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ben Koufie, will be buried Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast, Central region.

The remains of the former Sports official will be laid in State at the Christ Church (Anglican) Cathedral.

‘Uncle Ben’ as he was popularly called died last July, rose through the ranks as a footballer to become one of the accomplished technical brains in Africa.

Koufie started his career at Ebusua Dwarfs and Venomous Vipers, both in Cape Coast, and also played for the senior national team, the Black Stars. On retirement, he became a coach and handled the Black Stars and later the Zimbabwe national team.

He returned to Ghana to become chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in 2001, the head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Technical Committee and Coaches Instructor as well as the head of the GFA Technical Committee until his death.

Ben Koufie, aged 84, died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
