Osei blames referees for Kotoko's poor season

The Porcupine Warriors coach slams GPL referees, labelling them as "a joke" after failing to win the league title.

Asante Kotoko caretaker coach Michael Osei has blamed referees for his side's poor run of matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors failed to reclaim the title, placing fifth on the log despite a 2-1 win over Wafa on the league’s final day at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“The season has been very bad and there are a lot of factors that have contributed to that," Osei told Nhyira FM.

“As a coach, I don’t like to talk about officiating but during the second round, the referees were very bad and their actions were a joke to me. Because we were a favourite to clinch the league title but due to poor performance from referees, it didn’t work.

“I know the season is over and I will admit that and as a young coach, I have learnt many things and I am hoping to do better next season," he added.

Kotoko couldn't progress past the semi-finals of the FA Cup also, after they were stunned 5-4 on penalties at home by eventual winners Bechem United.
