Karaga NPP Elects New Candidate

Sulemana Ibn Saeed, 42, a public servant, has been elected as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Karaga Constituency for the December polls.

The previous NPP parliamentary candidate for the Karaga Constituency Shaharawi Bashiru recently resigned on health grounds.

The NPP therefore opened nominations on Monday and closed on Tuesday.

A total of 444 delegates were expected to cast their ballot in the election after the resignation of the previous candidate.

Voting started at exactly 10am on Saturday at the Karaga primary school and ended at 4pm.

The NPP’s First Vice Chairman, F.F. Anto, Nasara Coordinator, Kamaldeen Abdullah and some regional executives were in attendance.

Sulemana Ibn Saeed polled 208 votes to beat the former DCE of Karaga, Baba Wahab, who secured 168 votes and Imam Basha Firduas who obtained 28 votes with two spoilt ballot recorded.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Sulemana Ibn Saeed expressed gratitude to delegates for reposing confidence in him and reiterated his commitment to help the party capture the seat from National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the party could only win back power from the NDC if the members remain united.

He appealed to the party’s members to work hard to bring the party to power.

Mr Saaeed stated that he would work with anybody who wish to win power for the party, urging his contenders to support him to capture power to improve the lives of the people.

Two other contenders congratulated Mr Saeed and pledged to support for him and the party in general.
