NGO embarks on human rights campaign in Tamale

Ghana Developing Communities Associations (GDCA), a local non-governmental organisation has sensitized some communities in the Tamale Metropolis about their civic rights and responsibilities, to be able to demand their share of government's developmental projects. The communities include; Kalpohini, Kakpagyili, Kanvilli, Vittin, Nyohini, Lamashegu and Choggu communities. Madam Mariam Adam Kadiri, Gender Officer of Women and Youth of GDCA who was addressing the programme in Tamale on Tuesday, said women, who had benefited from the sensitization exercise, could now demand their rights from their husbands and stand against any form violence against them. She was addressing some of the beneficiaries of the community based sensitizations and empowerment programmes in Tamale on Tuesday. Madam Kadiri about 26, 000 women and the youth had so far been trained about their rights and they could talk freely about issues affecting them and how to challenge the authorities for their rights. She said some of the participants were given skill training through collaboration with other development-oriented organisations.
