GWCL Sets Record Straight

Some management members of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) are condemning an ostensible calumny campaign being orchestrated to impugn the integrity and malign the character of some top executives of the company and members of its Board.

The backers of this mudslinging crusade are obviously driven by greed and the desire to smear the company’s hardworking management whose only crime is to have blocked all loopholes created by individuals to milk the company dry.

Their goal is ultimately to distract the current management from the good work they are doing and defer once again from the dream of building a better GWCL.

For sometime now, financiers of the campaign consisting of aggrieved businessmen, insiders and past managers have been able to recruit pliable hacks in some media houses that are prepared to peddle all manner of falsehoods against chosen targets without a modicum of professionalism or regard to decency and good taste.

Investigations have revealed that these enemies of the truth and their agents are currently strategizing to on daily basis plant s sensational stories in the media with the intention of scandalizing the company’s Board and exposing its members to public ridicule. Their plan is to also foist an unpleasant profile of the company’s current MD and set the stage for a series of unsavoury stories about him.

A member of the Board who spoke to this paper said “we are aware of the activities of these vendors of lies and deceit who are hell bent to take advantage of the negative powers of the media to assassinate the character of their enemies “

“Although we welcome criticisms, the truth is that there is a difference between constructive criticism of a public servant and a poisonous campaign of calumny that drips with scurrilous attacks on personalities” He said.

His rebuttal was based on an earlier report by sections of the media which had accused management of awarding contracts to cronies and embezzlement of funds.

Describing the allegations as a smear of calumny, the Board member said they had first studied the story and found out that it was misleading, false and baseless.

However, senior officers who initially spoke on anonymity said the issue of contracts was a very technical matter, adding that had the media verified their claims, they would have known that the Board has no direct hand in award of contracts.

He therefore urged the public to discard the allegations, saying they are completely false, misleading and malicious in its entirety, and obviously the handiwork of distractors and mischief makers, whose intention is to distract management from its core mandate of providing water to the nation.

“The Board  is focused and determined to accomplish its  statutory responsibilities to all Ghanaians without favour and continue to serve this country and will not be distracted by distractors who take advantage of the media to launch a personal attack and campaign of calumny against management and Board members”  he stated
