GUA Produces The 1st Female GIA Prez

Managing Director for Ghana Union Assurance Company Ltd (GUA), Aretha Abena Abrafi Duku was on Thursday 22nd September, 2016 sworn in as the 10th and 1st female President of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) together with new board members.

Aretha Abena Abrafi Duku who took over from Mr. Ivan Avereyireh held the position of Deputy Managing Director of GUA for over 12 years.

She started her career some twenty years ago at Hannover Reinsurance Company in South Africa.

In South Africa, she also worked with CGU (during their merger), and other brokerage including Alexander Forbes, AON and Glenrand MIB.

She also consulted in Germany for a number of companies on notable projects where she worked on the Value Proposition for HP and launched the famous Evo brand of products; and the Company’s Ipaq launched at Davos with impressive dignitaries such as Former President Clinton.

Currently, Aretha Abena Abrafi Duku is a member of Prudential Bank Ltd, a member of the Board of Adehyeman Savings and Loans where she also serves on the Finance, Risk and Surveillance and GUA Life, a member of the Board of the Ghana Oil and Gas Pool where she chairs the Finance Committee, an Executive member of ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, a Board member of the Ghana Insurers Association, a Convener of the Ghana Insurers Association Fire Committee, a member of the National Insurance Commission Compulsory Insurance Committee, Chairman for the Training and Development Committee of the Insurance Institute of Ghana and a Board member of the Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool.

She was also a council member of the Ghana Stock Exchange. She studied law in the UK and also a pioneer of the MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from City Business School in United Kingdom 1996.
