Mohammed Mahadi Elected Vice President Of African Confederation Of Fencing

The President of the Ghana Fencing Association (GFA) Mohammed Mahadi has been elected as a Vice President of the African Confederation of Fencing (ACF) at its elective congress held in Dakar, Senegal on 11th September, 2016.

Mahadi, who polled 16 votes, was one of five candidates to be voted onto the executive body of the African continental body. Four other candidates from South Africa, Mali, Tunisia and Cameroon were also elected as vice presidents of the ACF.

The GFA President, who was also elected as a Vice President of the West African Fencing Union at the same congress, told www.ghanaolympic.org that his election is a testament to the hard work his outfit has put in since it was established three years ago.

“Ghana Fencing has since its inception in 2013 competed in almost all international competitions. We have had a policy plan of developing the sport and that is what made the delegates vote for us. We’re going to work together with the executive to create an African Development Plan.
Asked to explain his outfit’s policy plan of developing the sport in Ghana, Mr. Mahadi said:

“Our policy plan involves soliciting funds from corporate Ghana and spreading fencing to the regions. Our source of funding comes from corporate Ghana and not government. We want to be able to introduce inter schools fencing competitions.”

Mr. Mahadi added that he will use his new position to protect the interest of Ghana fencing.

“It’s going to be immense. Being a Vice President puts me in the executive. It will help me protect the interest of Ghana and help develop fencing in Africa.

Since its inception in 2013, national fencing teams have taken part in a host of international competitions including the World Junior Cadet Championships in Uzbekistan; African Junior and Senior Championships in Egypt; World Fencing Championships in Kazan and the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville.

The GOC would like to wish President Mohammed Mahadi hearty congratulations!
