Dont Compose Empty Songs O.J

He is reputed for his song writing abilities which has earned him a lot of recognition in the gospel music fraternity and award winning gospel artiste, O.J says he doesn’t believe in “composing empty songs”.

That, he said, has been his secret to releasing many songs that don’t just entertain listeners but inspires them to weather  the storms of life.

“I don’t release songs just  because I must . I do because I have a message for the public. If that isn’t achieved, there’s no relevance to me as a gospel artiste. My songs must make an impact in the lives of people and not just because I want people to appreciate the goodness of my voice,” he told Showbiz in an interview on Monday.

According to him, there is no point in giving people “trash” if there is no message to communicate because a musician will always be branded by his or her lyrics.

The Maye Se Mo Pen hitmaker explained that he stands out because a lot of research goes into his songs before they are finally released.

“I always have about five critics in the studio to review the complete album before it is finally out”, he said.

Due to how careful he is, O.J said he does not just feature on any song or feature people in his songs. To him, he has to like the song and know it’s likely to have an impact on the society before he features on it.

Asked his view on the current crop of musicians, O.J said he appreciates the talents of Joe Mettle, Eugene Zuta, Cwesi Oteng who are holding the fort on  the gospel scene with their good works.

Currently, O.J, born Micheal Oware Sakyi is promoting his latest eight- track album titled ɔboafoɔ

Songs on the album are Wana Mosi, Megyina Bepo Bi So, Onipa Hia Mmoa, Woyɛ Onyame, Menkaa Akyi, Emmere Bi Bɛba and Gyae Su Ne Adwendwen.

Already, a single track from the album Onipa Hia Mmoa has started enjoying airplay on some radio stations in Accra.

He says he was motivated to write Onipa Hia Mmoa when his father passed on. According to him, there were many things he wanted to discuss with his father but never had time to do so before he died. O.J is also known for other songs such as Apor Jesu, Mehia Wo, Meho Nyinaa and Onyame Ayɛ Bi.
