"No Security Agency Can Help A Party To Win"

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Boakye, has stated that no security agency in the country can help political parties win elections.

"It is about time the public, especially the media, stopped tagging the police with various political parties, because no security agency can win election for any political party and so, it is necessary that the political parties work hard and win the elections," he stated.

COP Boakyi said, it was in a bad taste for anyone to label any security agency as working for political parties when all that the agencies do "is protecting citizens and working for peace and stability during election."

He said addressing media practitioners at the opening of a three-day data journalism workshop in Kumasi, under the theme, "Amplifying voices through new media digital platform," organised by Penplusbytes in partnership with EIB Network. The training is aimed at improving access to dialogue and promoting an issue based approach to campaigning during this year's election.

COP Boakye advised media practitioners to stop politicizing criminalities before, during and after the December Polls.

On the other hand, the paramount chief of Kokofu, Berima Offe Okogyeasuo II, urged media practitioners to put aside their political interests and not to create platforms for political parties to insult one another.

According to Barima Okogyeasuo, such acts by media practitioners, caused tension and animosity among the supporters of the parties which was not healthy for the peaceful atmosphere the country was enjoying now.

"I urge you not to create platforms for political parties to talk against each other and put away your political affiliations in the course of your duties during the election for a very peaceful atmosphere," he said.
