2 File On NDC Ticket At Afram Plains South

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Affram Plains South, Mr Joseph Appiah Boateng, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of allowing two people to file to contest the Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency.

He has, therefore, given the EC a 48 - hour ultimatum to delete the name of one of the aspirants else he would seek redress in court.

He told journalists in Parliament on Wednesday that he would be compelled to go to court to seek an order to place an injunction on the parliamentary elections in Affram Plains South  if the commission does not come clean on the issue.

Mr Boateng, is the current MP of the area on the ticket of the NDC, but the party advised him to withdraw from contesting in the 2016 parliamentary election because of a pending court case against him in Ghana. The case is on an accusation that the MP has been convicted for fraud outside of Ghana

Following Mr Boateng's withdrawal, the NDC Regional Secretary, Mr Mark Oliver Kevor, was supported by the party executive members to file his nomination.

Mr Boateng claimed that another person, Mr Eric Osei Owusu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Buffer Stock Company, also went ahead to file his nomination on the ticket of the NDC in the constituency.

He said the purported filing of nomination by Mr Osei Owusu had created tension in the NDC in the area.

Consequently, he said, campaigning was at a standstill, which would affect the chances of the party to retain the Parliamentary seat in the area.

Mr Boateng alleged that some powerful national executive members of the NDC were pushing for Mr Osei Owusu to contest the election on the ticket of the party.

He said he expected the EC, being an independent body, not to allow the process to be circumvented.
